Tessellation involves covering a surface (usually a plane) with shapes called tiles so that there are no gaps or overlaps. Tessellation describes the arrangement of tiles in a repeating or non-repeating pattern that covers a surface completely and follows certain geometric rules. It is used interchangeably with the term Tiling

Existing classifications of tessellations should be examined initially to establish a foundational understanding of relevant concepts and terminology for subsequent analysis.

There are three tessellation types defined by Regular, Semi, ve Demi (aperiodic):1

  1. Regular Tessellation: Close to tilling
  2. Semi-regular Tessellation
  3. Demi-regular Tessellation
